Plotting Against You Since 2009

Group Info

We are based on the original ~1-hr-contest, but we concentrate more on the literary arts as opposed to the visual. After all, words are art too.

So, whether you're an amateur writer who wants to sharpen their skills, or a seasoned pro who's looking for a challenge, come on in, and join us!

It'll only take an hour of your time. ;)

Hey all! Your co-founder =frogmaster9 speaking! Just wanted to give you guys a big hello and let you know I won poolwater's contest (love those characters of hers she's amazing) and am now the new host!

I also wanted to address the lull we seem to be experiencing since our conversion into a group. At one point we had gotten up to five entries for one round! That was so fantastic, so many people participating makes such a fun and great atmosphere, and makes more people want to write and win and be a part of this fabulous community we are creating.

However, with the exception of a few brave and highly valued individuals, me and Ness (mostly Ness LOL) have been working really hard to keep this thing afloat, entering as much as we can; but this means that we're also hosting, A LOT and while this isn't exactly a bad thing, it also means that there's less people getting a chance to share their stories.

So, I'm going to invite you to do a few things:

(1) Tell people about us! Writers of any kind, shape, or size, even if they're not on dA! Tell them that there is a growing community for story-tellers to exercise their fiction writing and interact with other writers, invite them to make a dA account for the purpose of easily participating in the contest!

(2) Participate yourself! I know life can be busy, but remember, it only takes an hour of your time! Take the time when you see alerts from us to take a look and enter the latest round.

(3) Give constructive criticism! The current round's entries don't fizzle out of existence just because a winner is chosen; critique people's entries, and try to help them become a better writer! Better yet, critique the HOST! Tell them things you like and don't like about their story and characters, offer advice and ideas, just talk to them about what they plan to do with their creations!

(4) Talk to US! Give us your ideas on how we can make this club/group a more engaging, fun place to be! We want you to have fun, and feel included.

Lastly, Nessa and I are working to put together some real simple "basics of writing" type things to address some common issues we've been noticing in people's work. If you have any suggestions for subjects or have something you know you're having trouble with yourself, please let us know!

Countdown to Submission Deadline

Countdown ended
Sunday, February 7th @ 10:00am

Winner and next host of the Contest will be announced soon!

Contest Guidelines & Rules

:bulletpink: This contest is based on the original ~1-hr-contest, in which the current host of the contest offers up an original character(s) of their own and the participants draw said character(s) within the span of an hour and then submit it to the host. After a week of submissions, the host then chooses the piece he/she likes the most; the winner is then the new host and the process begins again.

:bulletblue: The exception with the writing contest is, of course, instead of fan art being submitted fan fiction will be submitted. The current host offers up an original character(s) of their own as well as a specific genre they want the submissions to follow (horror, romance, humor, etc.) In addition to, or perhaps instead of the provided genre, it is suggested that the host create a prompt by way of a sentence or two to help inspire the participants (“Betty bounced the big blue ball down the hall.”). Participants then write a short story about said character(s) within the span of an hour. After a week of submissions, the host then chooses the piece he/she likes the most; the winner is then the new host and the process begins again.

:bulletgreen: You cannot win twice in a row (i.e. Bobby hosts contest, Jannie participates, Bobby picks Jannie as the winner, Jannie hosts contest, Bobby participates, Jannie picks Bobby as the winner, Bobby hosts contest again). This does not mean that you cannot participate, only that you are ineligible for winning until the next round.

:bulletorange: It's also important that the host offer up reference material on the character(s) such as their setting, personality, and appearance, by way of pictures, writing excerpts, or both.

:bulletpurple: Because this is an honor based system, it would be unknown exactly how long participants actually spend on their piece, though to be fair to everyone involved it is important to stay within the hour time span (or as close to it as possible).

:bulletblack: In order to receive important updates, it is encouraged to “watch” or join this account. “Watching” the account will thus make you a member of the group, though you are not obligated to enter every time. Conversely, it is encouraged for participants to “watch” as well, so that contact may be made easier.

:bulletred: ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SENT TO THE CURRENT HOST OF THE CONTEST, NOT THIS ACCOUNT.

:spotlight-left: EXCESSIVE SWEARING AND/OR BAD MOUTHING OF THE CHARACTERS, HOST(S), AND/OR ENTRIES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED, AND THE PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE WILL NOT ONLY BE BANNED FROM THE ACCOUNT, BUT WILL ALSO BE PINNED ON TO THE WALL OF SHAME.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
:spotlight-right:

The main point of this contest is to expand your horizons, meet new people, and have fun!

Thanks for participating,

Hey Nessa, I'm too lazy to write a note, but I just wanted to point out that as the member list grows, so too will the length of each journal. Perhaps a more condensed version would be better, like 3 or 4 to a line, in you want to keep the names or you could just use the icons. Just a thought. :3 The CSS looks great! Thanks so much for putting up your own money for a sub! And good luck getting this turned into a group!

This is such an awesome club; I was hoping there'd be a "One Hour Contest" for writers, and now there is!
Are there any particular guidelines to participating/becoming a member, besides just watching the contest?

I honestly think this would be fun, if not for the fact that I can't even finish my own fanfics let alone write for this. Besides, My Froggie already wiped the floor with me.
